NHS & NJHS Sponsored by  Mrs. Weiner and Mrs. Vandevender

National Junior Honor Society

The National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle and high school levels, students. More than just an honor roll, NHS and NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1929.

Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in official Honor Society activities. NHS and NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

Fishing ClubMeets the 2nd Friday of every month in person. Meets online 4th Friday of each month online for planning and business.  All meetings and activities, unless otherwise indicated, begin at 9 AM. The purpose of the Fishing and Outdoor Activity Club is to give LVS students in grades 6-8 the opportunity to learn more about terrific outdoor activities such as fishing that our area is known for.  From aquatic and outdoor safety to basic knot tying, selecting bait and lures, to more advanced saltwater fishing and other outdoor activities, the FOAC is your ticket to leave the computer behind and get down with what nature has to offer. We will learn about the habitats, ecosystems, and resources that are around where we live and what we can do to enjoy and preserve them.  Parent volunteers and participation is gladly accepted!  Dues are $10.  Some activities may have additional costs.

Book Battle Sponsored by Mrs. Bailey

book-club Are you interested in Books? Do you want to put your knowledge to the test about 15 books? The book club is a club where participants read 15 books that are from the Sunshine State Young Readers book list. These books are all really interesting and fun to read. There are fantasy books, mysteries, and many other genres! We meet once a month to discuss these books, and to discuss ideas about Book Battle. We also meet on BlackBoard and will have more meetings closer to the battle date. Out of the participants in Bookclub, 6 will be able to represent our school to go to Book Battle, a super fun event held at the District Office! The 6 members of Book Battle will be assigned 2-3 books to be ‘experts’ on. At Book Battle, we get to dress up as either characters from the 15 books, or dress up to show school spirit! This event is May 1st and we would love for you to join! If you have any questions or would like to see if there are any spots left please contact Mrs. Bailey!

Drone Club
In Drone and Engineering Club students 6-12 learn to fly drones by practicing on simulators and actual drones.  The drone club will also be working on a 3D printing project for the students of LVS.  We hosted our 1st annual drone race in April.  We are looking forward to hosting it again this school year.  We also take a number of field trips to airfields to practice flying RC planes and drones.
