Math Team Kudos

Math Team Kudos! Mrs. Katine reports that on Saturday, November 14 at the First Annual Math Invitational at Dunbar High School, a competition larger than anticipated and much larger than any competition our Math Team students have participated in through the district, Lillian Gittings placed 4th out of all 8th graders present and placed 1st on the Algebra Topic Test. Then Nicole Glover and Lillian Gittings worked together on the team test taken by all 18 schools. This test was designed for the top 5 students from each school to work on together. These two ladies beat all the odds to come in tied for 3rd place! To my knowledge they were the only team with less than 5 members and definitely the only team of 2! Please congratulate these students when you see them, they have earned your praise!

Erin Coleman

Erin recently finished 4th at the 2016 South Atlantic Regional Figure Skating Championships in the Intermediate Ladies Free Skate event.

This is a tremendous accomplishment.

The intermediate level is the second of five competitive levels within the U.S. Figure Skating qualifying system.

Julie Canete

studentGovernor Rick Scott and First Lady Ann Scott named Lee Virtual School 6th grade student Julie Canete a winner of the Governor’s Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest. Julie, the only middle school student (grades 6-8) to win the prestigious award, was recognized in Tallahassee and in recognition, receives a four-year Florida College Plan scholarship by Florida Prepaid College Foundation.

The theme for this year’s essay and art contests was “Recognizing the Past, Honoring the Present, and Celebrating the Future.” Students were asked to research and write an explanatory essay about a Hispanic person or event significant to Florida’s past, present and/or future. The Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest is open to all Florida students in grades 4-12.

“On behalf of the entire Lee Virtual School family we are extremely proud of Julie’s academic accomplishments,” said Al Shilling, Principal, Lee Virtual School. “Julie represents how Lee Virtual School continues to lead, not only Southwest Florida, but the entire state in academic achievement.”
